Playing the What’s In Your Purse baby shower game is easy and fun. It’s one of my favorite baby shower games as a hostess because it’s easy to set up (especially if you use my free printable available in my resource library).
And I also love playing What’s In Your Purse as a guest because it’s simple to play, gets people chatting, and usually ends in some laughs without requiring anyone to make a fool of themselves (a hazard of too many shower games – think tasting baby food, guessing melted chocolate bars disguised as poo, or any game requiring a blindfold)

How Do You Play the What’s In Your Purse Baby Shower Game?
Have I mentioned this game is easy? That’s because the guests provide everything but the printable scoring sheet just by bringing their purses.
To play the What’s In Your Purse shower game, you need a list of items that might be in someone’s purse (some more likely than others). And you need a point value assigned to each item.
There are a couple of ways to set up the game. The first option is to use a free printable version of the What’s In Your Purse game like the one in my free resource library.
Or, if you don’t want to use a printer, simply create your own list of possible purse items on a sheet paper. And then assign a point value to each item. The more unusual the item, the higher the points.
To give you an idea of what I mean, a lip balm might be worth 1 point because so many people carry it. While a notepad might be worth 5 points because it’s less likely to be in everyone’s bag.
Although you can keep everything one point if you want to make your game really simple.

What is in Your Purse Baby Shower Game Rules
When you’re ready to play the What’s In Your Purse baby shower game, give your guests a sheet of paper for tallying their score (whether on a printable game sheet or a piece of scrap paper).
Then go through each item on the list one at a time to see who has the item in their purse. Allow time for your guests to dig around. Some of us carry purses that could double as suitcases.
If you’re using a printable game sheet listing every item it would be easy to hand out the sheets and have your guests play solo, digging through their purse and checking off items on their own. And that is an option. But I’ve found the game to be much more fun when you play it as a group.
The hostess can read each item on the list one at a time. Guests who have the item raise their hand or hold up the item to show. Be sure to give people time to dig if there are a lot of big purses. In a fun group, there will be laughter and chatting. Playing as a group keeps people engaged.
At the end of the game have your guests add up their points and the person with the most points wins the game. Yay!
Technically, the rules state that the winner must show all the items on their list as proof. Usually, you will see everything while your guests are digging around in their bags and triumphantly pulling out each item.
But in any case, I usually feel comfortable going with the honor system. It’s hard to imagine a guest being so desperate for a potted plant or spa basket baby shower prize that they would be willing to cheat. at “What’s in Your Purse?”.

What’s in Your Purse Game List
One of the best things about the What’s In Your Purse baby shower game is that you can make it your own. A free printable like the one in my resource library makes the game easy as the hostess, just print and play. BUT…
If you’re looking for something a little spicier for your crowd or just don’t like the list, it’s easy to make your own!
Let’s say you’re planning a baby shower with a group of old friends with a lot of inside jokes or a dirty sense of humor. In that case, create your own What’s in Your Purse game list!
Maybe you want to add condoms to the list. Or mace. Or personalize it with things you know are your friends’ secret addictions. It’s easy to make the list fun and specific to your guest list.
On the other hand, when your guest list is made up of the mom-to-be’s relatives or you’re hosting a shower for a friend and you don’t know many of the people on her guest list, it makes sense to keep the items on your What’s In Your Purse game list more neutral.
