Keepy is an app that allows you to save your photos, videos, and even your children’s artwork in a simple and secure way. And within the app, you can organize and enhance all of your family photographic treasures. I am loving this app for storing all of my favorite photos and videos from my phone.
The Problem with Cell Phone Photos
Several years ago I had the unenviable task of ordering and setting up new cell phones for the physicians at the clinic where I worked. This was around the time smartphones were first appearing on the scene. One of the people I was setting up a new phone for realized she was not able to save the photos on her old phone and move them to the new one.
There were limitations with the technology at the time. And her old phone was experiencing glitches that prevented us from saving the photos. I will never forget her devastated face when she said, “There were pictures of my children on here. They are irreplaceable.”
Although I had no children of my own at the time, I felt terrible we hadn’t been able to retrieve the photos from the old phone. Now that I am a mother myself, I understand her anguish even more. The problem is even worse these days, since how many of us even use a camera anymore? For many of us, all of our photos are on our phones.
I have experienced my share of difficulties moving photos and videos from my cell phone to my computer when I change phones every few years. Or when my storage is full on my phone and I need to delete photos in order to use it. For all of these reasons, I am so grateful to have found Keepy.
My Favorite Things About Keepy
Keepy is incredibly simple to use. My photos and videos load quickly and the quality is beautiful. I love the option to record a comment to go with a photo within the app. My daughter enjoys this as well as she loves the sound of her own voice as much as she loves seeing pictures of her adventures.
I am especially happy with the ability to store videos in Keepy. It has been a challenge for me to find an app that would store videos taken with my cell phone and maintain the original size and quality. The only videos of my two daughters early weeks, months, and years were taken with my cell phone. Without Keepy I would have no place to store the video of my daughter’s first steps. At least not without the quality suffering from being transferred to my computer.
An unexpected and pleasant surprise for me was the Keepy Store. The app gives you the option to create photo books, mugs, cards and other photographic gifts with your pictures. I create photo gifts of my children for family members for Mother’s Day, Father’s Day and Christmas every year. I am looking forward to how simple it will be with the Keepy app since my photos are already uploaded.
One more thing I’ve enjoyed about the Keepy app is the ability to easily and privately share photos with my husband and my kids’ grandparents. When you add family members as “fans” of the app they receive email links to your photos and videos as you add them. I don’t post photos of my children on social media. I’m glad I now have a private way to share photos with family members.
A Few Things I Would Change
There are two minor things I would change about Keepy. The first is that even with the unlimited plan you can only upload five photos at a time. I tend to want to upload photos in batches so I would love it if I could select a large group and have them upload in one shot.
The second thing is I wish the app was able to detect when you are trying to upload a photo you’ve uploaded previously. I often forget where I left off adding my photos to Keepy. Because there is no way to know what has already been added without checking each one, I’ve uploaded some duplicates.
What You Need to Know About the App
The Keepy app is free to download for Apple and Android phones. With the free account, you can save 5 photos or videos each month. There is a paid upgrade for $5.49 per month or $9.99 per year to be able to save unlimited photos and videos. The paid upgrade also offers you a 50% discount on all photo products from the Keepy Store.
If you’re looking for a simple and secure way to store your family photos and videos, I encourage you to check out Keepy.
Is Keepy better than Google photos? I’m currently using Google photos and find it to be user friendly and love the ability to create albums to share.
HI Amy,
This is Offir Gutelzon, Keepy CEO.
Google Photos is amazing, and I use it too but mostly for backing up all my photos. Keepy is made to save your kids and family memories, meaning the photos that made you happy adding them some context, such as caption and name and age of your child. On top of that, it makes is much easier to share with the close family member such as grandma, sharing is simple and is being done over email.
Last but not least you can add video and voice comments of your kids or your self. Here is an example of my son commenting on his artwork http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ChNbF6-BMkg

I have been looking at something to store my pic…great timing! I will check this out!
Loved your review! I am constantly looking for a good app after learning the hard way and losing all my precious pictures when my phone crashed. I’ll give this a peek.
I need to get this! I love that you can save comments on photos!
Sounds like a great app! I have a ton of photos on my phone, and I’m always worried that I will accidentally delete them, so this would be perfect.
this sounds like a really good app!
This sounds like the answer to my problem of storage as well. I always get nervous deleting them on my phone even though they are saved on my computer!
Great ideas! I started backing up my photos because phones can easily be broken or lost. This is so helpful!
Hi Katie,
Backing up the photos is for sure important.
Would love to tell you more about Keepy.

I love the sound of this! I have a real storage problem on my phone with all the photos and videos I take of my daughter, so this may be the solution!
Looks like a good app. Thanks for the information on it.
I didn’t know this kind of thing existed. I’m always running out of space, this would be so helpful!
I had never heard of this app. Looks like I need to check it out!
Looks interesting. I have Snapfish, so wondering what the similarities and differences are between the two?
Marissa,
Hope this message finds you well,
Main difference is organization and context. With Keepy everything you captured includes your kids name age and story about their artwork or other mementos.
I love this review! I just actually downloaded Keepy too and looking forward to exploring it here soon. I have a ton of kiddie drawings I need to save, so this is such a great idea and tool to have!

Offir Gutelzon,
I got the Keepy app after reading Liz’ blog post. I really liked how easy it was to put pictures on and set it up. I got so carried away that I used up my pictures until next month. I am
thinking I will want to do the yearly subscription. I look forward to using it to make photo
books and gifts. I really appreciate the app support emails I got after I downloaded it. If I have any questions I know there is great support, so thanks for that.
Sincerely,
Laurie
Liz,
I loved your review of this app! I too have used up storage space because of my photos on my phone and I hate having to part with any of them. I am going to give this app a whirl. You will be my tech person if I need help ? Great article!
Liz,
Thank you for sharing this information about the keep app. I sure have enjoying the pictures and videos of the kids. Now that you’ve explained the app and how it works I’m going to give it a try too. My phone is always out of storage due to my photos. If I need help with the app I know who to call ?
